Bac-Bac Braid
Description: This 1" wide flat braid is made from the bark of the banana tree. Its rich contrasts of dark and light browns make this product a distinctive trim or edging accent. Most often used to wrap columns or log joinery, as well as trim over some of our other decorative wall and ceiling treatments
Appearance: 1" wide flat braid made using the bark of the banana tree. With beautiful contrasting light and dark browns in diamond shaped woven patterns, this material makes wonderful trim.
Grade (Int. vs. Ext.): Best for interior applications, but may be used under a lanai or covered porch.
Durability: Quite a rugged material, this is commonly used as lashing in its areas of origin.
Size: 1" x 82'
Stainability: Can receive a stain, but since it already has such rich colors, it is typically not stained.

Bac-Bac Rope Twisted
Description: The beautiful rich tans and browns of this hand twisted rope is a great alternative to other lightweight lashing, and gives extra detail and charm to any project. Quite a rugged natural product, this is commonly used as lashing in its native areas. Most often used to wrap columns or log joinery, as well as trim over some of our other decorative wall and ceiling treatments.
Appearance: With the beautiful contrasting light and dark browns of the banana bark used to make it, this thin rope makes for a fantastic alternative to other ropes, and gives detail and texture to any project.
Grade (Int. vs. Ext.): Best for interior applications, but may be used under a lanai or covered porch
Durability: Quite a rugged material, this is commonly used as lashing in its areas of origin.
Size: 3/8" x 80'
Strength: Easy to install; stapled, nailed, or applied with contact adhesive.
Stainability: Can receive a stain, but since it already has such rich colors, it is typically not stained.

Braided Zulu Rope
Description: Braided river reed has been used as lashing by African tribes for centuries. This authentic rugged-looking sandy beige rope gives an instant full-bodied texture that is absolutely perfect for cosmetic lashing of bamboo or timber joinery. Zulu rope can also be easily used as chair rails, to wrap columns, or as trim and molding for any of Tiki’s By Design’s wall and ceiling treatments.
Appearance: Braided River Reed used by traditional African tribes as rope. Sandy beige in color. Rugged, chunky look that gives instant texture.
Grade (Int. vs. Ext.): Best for interior applications, but may be used under a lanai or covered porch
Durability: Quite durable when not exposed to prolonged weathering effects.
Size: 1"w x 50'l
Strength: Purely cosmetic material, do not use as structural lashing. First secure timbres by traditional means, and then use rope as an accent.

Manila Rope
Description: A standard manila rope, this hard natural fiber rope has very little stretch. It is resistant to sunlight and doesn’t melt like synthetic roping material, but is susceptible chemicals. This natural hemp can be used structurally, but is not as strong as Tiki’s By Design’s Polyester Rope. This rope accepts a dye well, and its manila color and natural texture are perfect for your tropically themed projects.
Appearance: Manila colored rope of various diameters. Hard natural fiber.
Grade (Int. vs. Ext.): Great for both interior and exterior applications.
Durability: As a natural product, expect normal weathering based on your climate. Highly resistant to sunlight, and doesn't melt like synthetic roping material. Very little stretch. Drawback is that chemicals will break it down.
Size: Available from 1/4" up to 2" thick, and in rolls of 600 feet (1/4" rope is 1200ft)
Strength: Very strong rope, can be used in structural applications. Better to be used indoors in this fashion however as overtime, weathering will begin to compromise its strength. Not as strong as synthetic roping.
Stainability: Yes - it accepts a dye well, but typically isn't treated in this way.

Polyester Rope - Desert Sand
Description: This sandy colored synthetic rope is the number one general-purpose rope in the boating industry. It is very close in strength to nylon, but abrasion and U.V. protection. A long lasting exterior rope that is commonly used in our fences and its beige color lends itself well to any tropical theme.
Appearance: Synthetic sandy beige colored rope.
Grade (Int. vs. Ext.): Great for both interior and exterior applications.
Durability: Polyester rope is very close to nylon in strength, but has greater abrasion resistance and U.V. protection. Long lasting exterior rope, but does not stretch, so it cannot take shock loads.
Size: Available from 1/4" to 1" thick, and in rolls of 600ft.
Strength: Very strong, it is the number one general purpose rope in the boating industry.
Stainability: Does not take a stain, but the sandy beige color of this rope ties in well with our other natural products
